Tell Us How You’ll ScanSnap – Tax Season

It’s that time of year again and with the tax deadline quickly approaching that leaves many people scrambling to get all of their documents, invoices, and receipts in order for last minute filing. With papers and other documents piling up all year, finding everything you need in order to prepare your taxes come April can be a chore. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a less chaotic way to go about organizing all these items as they came across for easy access once they were needed? While this process can be overwhelming there is a better and more streamlined way to approach tax preparation as these three ScanSnap users found out. Read their stories here:

“I prepare taxes as my side job.  That entails a lot of copying; more than my one man business can handle. This last year, my Tax Prep software came out with an add-on that allows me to scan in the documents that I need to prepare and keep (i.e. W-2’s, 1099’s, stock sales, etc). This new version will even take the information straight from the scan and put it into the correct place on the return, then stores the document in an e-folder and attaches it to my copy of the return.  I would use my Scan Snap to do just that… Scan into my program and eliminate all the extra keyboarding time and all that copying.  Scanning could make me 20-40% more efficient and get my clients their refunds faster!”  – Donald, New Braunfels, TX

“I’ve been doing taxes for many individuals and small businesses.  One of my requirements from the IRS and affiliate banks is to keep copies of client’s returns including documents, such as birth certificates and socials, for three to five years. That’s a lot of paperwork accumulated overtime!  If I could scan all of this and create PDF files, it would be no hassle at all.   I still have file cabinets and boxes of client paperwork in storage areas and have run out of room, let alone have to go back for each file after the fifth year spend months shredding all these documents…  This would be a total plus for me, especially if I can just scan everything at one time.” – Germania, Yonkers, NY

“I would scan all my receipts so that in April when it is time to do taxes, I wouldn’t have to face my husband with a tattered shoebox in my hands.  I would scan them routinely and imagine the look on his face when I hand him my organized disk and say “here you go!”  An added benefit would be that I would avoid the annual re-run of receipt “memories” that invariably lead to tears: “Oh, that was when we took the kids to dinner on the last night we saw them last year. I miss them!” My husband would gladly pay double to miss that performance.” – Jane, McArthur, CA
