ScanSnap at Macworld 2014 – A Squad Member’s Overview

The fun and excitement of MacWorld/iWorld has already come and gone. How did that happen? And what a wonderful event it was. The show is always big, but with it being the 30th anniversary of the Mac it felt huge. The three-day event was filled with informative speaker sessions, a huge expo floor full of vendors, and a time for seeing old friends, and making new ones.

There were dozens of sessions with a multitude of presenters ranging from such wonderful speakers as Jeff Gamet, David Sparks, Katie Floyd, Joe Kissel, and Jeff Carlson, to name a few.

The expo floor was packed with a hundred of vendors including favorites such as Fujitsu (obviously), MicroMat, iKlear, and AgileBits. There were rows and rows of exhibitors and all week the show floor was busy.

The highlight of the entire show was seeing Jean MacDonald, founder of App Camp for Girls, at an open house she held. The session’s audience was made up of approximately 20 young woman who had the opportunity to learn from one another how to code, develop software, and, in general, that geeking out over code and related technology can be interesting and fun at the same time. It was a great session led by a great lady who runs a great organization making an impact in young women’s lives each day.

As App Camp for Girls’ website says, “We think that when girls see how fun and creative app development can be, they’ll be more likely to pursue a career in software development and technology.” That’s pretty powerful, and vitally important to the future.

While I am admittedly a little biased, I can honestly say my favorite part was the opportunity Fujitsu afforded me to volunteer in its ScanSnap booth at Macworld. I had the privilege of helping attendees learn more about the ScanSnap iX500 and ScanSnap SV600, share some of my experience and tips, and all-in-all simply interact with a community of Mac enthusiasts whom I enjoy very much and share so much in common with.

Ready to plan for 2015? Well then, take out your calendars and mark down March 12-14, 2015 for the next MacWorld/iWorld. I hope to see you there!
